We woke up to a beautiful sunrise at sunrise camp. Â We got some good pictures of the sun coming up over Vogelsang. Â We got another early start. Â The first two miles were flat or just a bit up hill. Â We then came down about 1700 feet. Â During the hike down we saw some Grouse, Hawks and near the end some of the boys saw a bear. Â Matt R got a picture of it. Â The bear was having lunch on the trail. Â It wisely took off when it saw the boys.
We got into camp at Merced Lake about 2:00. Â Josh won the “Guess our Arrival Time” game and of course won, you guessed it, a candy bar. Â After getting set up we all went swimming in the Merced River which feeds into Merced Lake. Â Everyone got as clean as you can without actually using soap. Â The water seemed a bit warmer than the other places. Â The boys spent some time throwing logs and and pine cones in the river and flowing them down the falls. Â The had some races creating a different kind of pine wood derby. Â We all went back, had dinner and a camp fire. Â We all went to bed looking forward to hike the next morning up the “Hill” to Volgelsang.
