I need to post a blog entry for a requirement for my Communications Merit Badge. If you came into Troop 301 from a Cub Scout pack, you’ll find it’s very different, as you may have heard from Dr Bryon. Instead of parents leading everything like they did in Cub Scouts, adults in Troop 301 are HIP (Hands In Pockets). Our wonderful adults take care of the paperwork and driving to and from our many activities, but it’s the older boys in the troop that take on the real responsibility. An older boy spends much of his time teaching the new Scouts, leading our games and activities, and working with the adults to make sure that the troop runs smoothly. You’ll find that as you gain experience in Troop 301, you will spend more and more time learning how to lead others effectively. If you are entirely new to the Scouting experience, don’t worry. Our older boys will get you up to speed just as quickly as the ones who came in from Cub Scouts. I wish you all luck on your journey through Scouting. I can’t say for sure how long each of you will be active in Troop 301, but you’re sure to enjoy the experience.
Welcome new Scouts!
