USS Nimitz Private Tour Opportunity

The following e-mail was sent by Carol Stachwick to her Girl Scout Troop 8250 in Scripps Ranch.

Last year at this time, our Girl Scout troop, with help from friends, made over 200 Christmas and Holiday stockings full of goodies which were shipped overseas.  The pictures are still posted on board the Nimitz as a happy reminder that they are loved by the Scouts and their families back home.

Well, they have not forgotten our good deed.   My good friend Captain John Ring is the Executive Officer and 2nd in Command of this ship which carries over 5,000 personnel and a variety of aircraft.  His wife Captain Cathleen Ring is also a Navy officer and in her volunteer role she helps coordinate Military Family welfare programs here in San Diego.

We have confirmed a special personal tour of the USS Nimitz with Captain Ring on  Saturday, October 9 at 1pm and the tour should be about 2 hours.  We are allowed a group of 50-100, so the Scouts can bring their families.

Please remember that we will be entering an active military base and an active duty military ship.  Everyone should plan to bring Identification and dress in Scout gear.  We will have further instructions for entering the base and ship.

Please RSVP via with the names and ages of those interested in attending.

In Scouting,

Carol Stachwick

Carol and Capt Ring have extended the invite to include Boy Scout Troop 301 and their families.  I realize this is at the same time as the Lost Valley Bike Trip, but it was the only date that worked for the crew of the Nimitz.  If you are interested please RSVP by the next troop meeting so I can do the necessary paper work on our end.  This will be a class A event for Scouts and Scouters.
