A-Camping We Will Go

A-camping-we-will-go, a-camping-we-will-go, off to help the first year scouts earn second class. This month, we went to Mt. Laguna for our yearly second-class campout. At beautiful Mt. Laguna, we saw many of the mountain range’s best views, such as the awe-inspiring look into the desert from the tops of the cliffs on our 5-mile hike. Like all our campouts, we helped one another earn our next awards, and, more importantly learn new skills and have fun with the people in our troop.

Speaking of awards, Troop 301 had its Spring Court of Honor this month.

We would like to recognize Dylan Graham, Adam Trubitt, Stephen Lofy, Eddie Vildibill, Brennan Straub, Erik Klingenberg, and Spencer Ingles for earning Scout rank. Additionally, Dylan Graham, Adam Trubitt, Stephen Lofy, Eddie Vildibill, Brennan Straub, Erik Klingenberg, and Spencer Ingles achieved Tenderfoot rank. Craig Bosworth, Dario Inzunza, and Nathan Khuu earned Star rank. Life, the rank directly below Eagle, the highest rank in Boy Scouts, was earned by Dan Lofy, Michael Franke, Kyle Fisher, Keith Aylwin, Jake Todd, Reed Hallums, Jacob Zimmer, and Grant Ingamells.

Our Spring 100 (oops, I mean 20) miler was a great success! Though a little bit sore the next day, the hikers were all very happy to see that they had finally made it to the ocean at the end of the hike. Also, everyone was grateful to Mrs. Klug, Mrs. Solberg, Mrs. Graham, Mr. Izzo, and Mr. Fisher for bringing us food along the way. As our Scoutmaster playfully jokes, “The 13th point of the scout law? Hmmm…Hungry!”

Good luck to Josh Solberg and Alex Abeyta on their Eagle Scout Projects. Josh is redoing the mile markers at Miramar Lake Reservoir, while Alex Abeyta is replacing tiles at the new Ellen Browning Scripps Elementary School that were originally placed there when the site was Marshall Middle School.

Personal management, one of the Eagle Scout Award-required merit badges, is well underway this summer with many scouts working hard and getting their requirements done.

Thank you to the Izzo family for hosting the swimming safety clinic for the first year Scouts. Also, lets not forget Harrison Trubitt, Andrew Izzo, and Kevin Graham who showed the first year Scouts how it’s done.
