Scripps Ranch Troop 301

Hiking Log

To recognize those Scouts who have hiked many miles and learned many things in the outdoors, Troop 301 is beginning a new hiking award. Hikes/miles that will count are those done as a BOY SCOUT, and a hike must be three or more miles in length. These need to be done on a Patrol, Troop, or other Scouting event (i.e. a Tour Permit was filled out!).

The patch is in the shape of a boot, and will have 100 MILE HIKER across the bottom. The basic design of the patch is on the left.

The Scout will then be recognized in 50 mile increments with a rectangle patch to line up below the boot, with:
150 MILES
200 MILES
250 MILES (We actually have Scouts who have done this!)
300 MILES
ETC.

These patches may be sewn near the top of the BACK of the merit badge sash, so others may see your accomplishments. They may also be sewn on the right pocket of the Scout Shirt, daypack, backpack, etc. How to receive this award at the next Court of Honor in January:

There are Scouts who were in Boy Scouts before 2005, and/or did hikes with other Troops, and/or I may have forgotten to put some trips in the list below. These hikes also DO count, as long as they meet the requirements above. (Length, auspices of the Boy Scouts).

When you reach a milestone (100, 150, 200, etc.), photocopy your hiking record sheet, and get it to the Scoutmaster. Per the Troop bylaws, you must do this two weeks before the upcoming Court of Honor in order to be recognized.Congratulations in advance!

Steps to submit hiking miles to Dr Bryon on paper.
1. Print Out (To get the sheet click here, then print from the Googledoc spreadsheet application).
2. Circle each night attended.
3. Add up nights spent.
4. Make a copy for yourself to keep in your Advancement Binder.
5. Make another copy and turn into Dr Bryon.

If you want to do it electronically, get the spreadsheet through Googledoc and save it your computer locally by exporting to the file format you want to use (usually .xls). Open the file on your machine then, fill in your name. Put in a Y or N showing the hikes you did, the sheet will add up the nights, then print and give to Dr Bryon. Keep also, keep copy for yourself to be printed out and put in your Advancement Binder.

The following list can also be used to keep track of hikes for the Hiking Merit Badge.
