Certified Divers

Here is a photo that Michael S. sent of his Rugged Scuba group. As you can see, 3 of the scouts in the photo are from our troop – Michael, Reid, and Ryan. They all received their scuba certification which is not easy. Today’s dive was 66-feet deep.

To get certified there is a lot prework – about 6 hours of on-line learning with lots of tests. The only thing to consider is that scouts in the rugged scuba program you don’t get to do most of the activities with the troop. But if there are several doing the rugged program like this year then it is not a problem since they have someone else to hang out with.

The boys ate their meals at different times and when the troop was out on war canoe for example the rugged boys were on line researching so they could write a 500 word essay on scuba diving. The good part was they all LOVED it!!! Thanks to Mrs Simmons for passing this along Mr Simmons who was an adult leader there.

Congrats to our newly certified divers!

Emeral Bay Date Set

Great News! Troop 301 has the August 1-7th for Emerald Bay Summer Camp on Catalina Island for 2010! This is before the anticipated Yosemite dates (we will be trying to get campsites/permits for a day hike trip in the 3rd week of August and a backpack trip in the 4th week of August to Yosemite.

The first payment will be due from the Troop on Jan. 8th, so we need $100 from Scouts and Scouters that are planning on going (this includes the Rugged Adventures and/or SCUBA).

If you want to go to Em. Bay, we will sign you up when the check is in hand (ours), so bring $100 per person (please put Emerald Bay/the person(s) name(s) in the comments section) in a check made out to Troop 301 TO THE TROOP MEETING on January 6th at the SR Rec Center.

WE WILL GIVE THE CHECKS TO TROOP TREASURER MRS. SIMMONS, AND THIS WILL BE OUR SIGN-UP LIST.

Please note: there will be other installments due-Mr. Barkell will let those signed up know these dates. If you do NOT make an installment payment, you will be dropped from the Troop 301 Em. Bay Roster for 2010. Late payments MIGHT or MIGHT NOT be accepted by Emerald Bay Summer Camp, and there might be penalties imposed by the camp.

2010 Planning

Once again, huge congratulatory hand pounds to SPL Marvin Ordonez and the Patrol Leaders/Youth Leaders of Troop 301 who participated in the annual planning session on 8/26. The calendar draft is being reviewed by the Troop Committee, and will hopefully be sent soon. Some dates are TBD (To be determined), as we cannot make some reservations yet (i.e. Yosemite), and must participate in some lotteries (i.e. Emerald Bay).

Below are some sign-ups and informational morsels, please read through this post, as if you do not, you will be wondering “Whoa. . .how did I miss that?!?!” Also, it will help us plan numbers/if the trip is feasible.

Also, if we all help the Scouts with these trips a little, we can do so much for our sons, and no one person is overwhelmed. . .nor do we “Drop the ball” for things our sons want to do. Let’s help them realize these dreams.
