Troop 301 on the Move
In January, Michael Franke and Garrett Solberg led our quarterly Court of Honor. Many scouts received awards for their outstanding participation in the troop. Among them, the Second Class Rank was earned by Jonathan Parada; the First Class Rank was earned by Mitchell Ingles, Duncan Klug, Andrew Izzo, and Evan Clarke; the Star Scout Rank was earned by Jacob Zimmer and Matt Ringel; and the Life Scout Rank was earned by Brandon Khuu, Garrett Solberg, and Christian Nagano. In addition, Josh Solberg was recognized for hiking 400 miles during his tenure as a boy scout.
Also this past month, we distributed the seed balls we had made over the last couple months. We drove to a remote canyon somewhat near Julian and worked our way along a path, throwing seed balls out into the burned areas. After 5 hours of work, we drove back home tired but happy we could do good deeds with our friends.
We also camped out at Lake Jennings, where we fished, hiked, and played hide-and-go-seek. Even though no one caught any fish (except for some fish-shaped bait), everyone had a great time. Lake Jennings also invoked feelings of déjà vu as it was markedly similar to nearby Lake Miramar.
If that was not enough, we had a station at the Webelos Day event at Scripps Community Park. There, we educated Cub Scouts about what Troop 301 and Scouting is all about, also including games and an obstacle course!
